Toki, a national special natural monument born in the wild in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture, was confirmed in Niigata City on the 6th of this month.

It is the first time in two years that a crested ibis has been confirmed to fly to Honshu.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, at around 11:10 am on the 6th of this month, citizens found Toki looking for food in the paddy fields in Niigata City and took a picture of it.

When the Ministry of the Environment, who was contacted, checked the photo, it was found that the crested ibis was born in the wild in Sado City and came to Niigata City because there was no ankle ring attached to the released individual.

The sex is unknown, but the Ministry of the Environment says it is a young ibis that was just born last year and has not reached the breeding age, based on the color of its feathers.

The Ministry of the Environment has not disclosed the detailed location found to protect the ibis.

Toki has been confirmed in Honshu for the 26th time since it was witnessed in Yuza Town, Yamagata Prefecture, and of these, the 9th case of Toki born in the wild.

If you find a crested ibis, the Kanto Regional Environment Office of the Ministry of the Environment is calling for you to keep an eye on it quietly and contact the office.
