[Explanation] Xi'an has launched 3D printed body cosmetic surgery technology to restore the face of the body damaged in special circumstances.

The reporter observed and interviewed the new technology at a funeral home in Xi'an on the 8th.

[Concurrent] Yuan Junqiang, Head of the Plastic Surgery Group of Xi'an Funeral Home

We are the plastic surgery team of Xi'an funeral parlour. The main tasks of our team are the reception, refrigeration, make-up, restoration of the remains and other funeral tasks.

It has been nearly 4 months since our group introduced 3D printing technology in 2020, and there are 12 cases in total.

Compared with the traditional technology, the introduction of this 3D technology is time-saving and efficient, and it has been recognized by the majority of bereaved families.

[Explanation] Yuan Junqiang, head of the plastic surgery group of Xi'an funeral home, said that traditional facial repairs require manual operations by plastic surgeons, using plaster, cement, paint and other materials to repair and suture, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Using 3D printing technology, the body can be reshaped within 24 hours, and the accuracy is higher.

[Concurrent] Zhang Lianchao, staff member of the plastic surgery team of Xi'an funeral home

The advantage of 3D printing technology is that it takes less time and reduces workload.

Only the family members of the deceased provide the staff with 3 to 5 photos, and then the staff will perform the modeling.

After confirmation by family members, it takes 20 hours to form.

Later, we will wear it for the deceased, apply artificial makeup, adjust the chromatic aberration of the face, and achieve satisfactory results, presenting the best side of the deceased.

[Explanation] Staff Zhang Lianchao said that the plastic surgery team repaired not only the dignity, but also the trauma of the soul.

Through the renewal of technical means, let the deceased bid farewell to their relatives with a "perfect look".

In recent years, Xi’an funeral homes have continuously launched land-saving and ecological burials, such as tree burials and lawn burials.

While letting the deceased return to nature, it also allows people to learn to respect and understand life.
