Skanderbeg: He is said to have killed 3,000 Turks in battle alone

When the Ottomans overran the Byzantine Empire and conquered Constantinople, the Albanian prince Skanderbeg (1405–1468) opposed them.

As a hostage in the Sultan's army, he got to know the Turkish way of fighting.

But after his father's execution, he switched to the Christian camp and waged a successful guerrilla war for decades.

That made him the national hero of Albania.
