Scenes like from a monster film in Thailand: A giant lizard has caused panic and chaos in a supermarket just outside Bangkok.

A video shot by an employee shows how the 1.60-meter-long monitor lizard climbs vertically up a shelf and loudly clears the goods from the boards with his sturdy legs.

Once at the top, the animal makes itself comfortable and lets its long tongue play.

The startled sounds of customers and employees can be clearly heard in the video that has now been posted on YouTube by the “Viral Press” platform and has already been clicked thousands of times.

The incident occurred in Nakhon Pathom 50 kilometers west of Bangkok, it said.

The lizard apparently got out of a nearby canal and walked purposefully into the store.

After an employee called the police, the bandage monitor was finally brought from the store by a task force and released in a nearby bush.

According to "Viral Press", the lizard may have been hungry because the natural food supply was very poor after a long period of drought.

The dangerous-looking monitor monitors are not uncommon in Thailand, but they are usually considered harmless.
