Just a few weeks ago, the Swedish Work Environment Authority inspected the Royal Opera's infection control measures.

The department is now announcing that it will close down all activities for at least a week after more than 15 people have been infected with the coronavirus, Dagens Nyheter reports.

The rehearsals that may have taken place during the pandemic have now been put on pause and staff are urged not to visit the building.

Prevents it from spreading further

Birgitta Svenden, who is the CEO of the theater and is part of the special steering group set up during the pandemic, tells Dagens Nyheter that:

- It is true that we have more corona positives this week.

There are just over 15 cases we know of.

It is spread over several departments, but not a cluster outbreak: in several cases it is about people who have not been close to each other.

We are shutting down to make sure it does not spread further.

Birgitta Svendén also states that none of the people who tested positive are seriously ill at the moment.
