In France, hospital pressure continues to increase, with 5,626 patients in intensive care units.

But the vaccination campaign is accelerating, and several large centers have opened, including the one located at the Stade de France.

While millions of students are now remotely schooled, many bugs disrupted Tuesday.

LIVE

After an Easter weekend marked by a "tolerance" for travel, France entered the regime of hardened restrictions against the coronavirus epidemic on Tuesday.

Travel is now limited to 10 kilometers, and millions of children have returned to distance school, unfortunately disturbed by many bugs.

Along with these measures, the executive is still counting on an acceleration of the vaccination campaign, and the Stade de France has opened its doors to the first bites.

And there is an emergency, as the situation remains tense in hospitals, where the bar of 30,000 hospitalized patients was exceeded on Tuesday.

Follow the evolution of the situation live.

The main information to remember

  • More than 30,000 patients are hospitalized in France

  • Macron assured college students that there should be no "new confinement by the end of the school year"

  • The vaccination campaign continues to accelerate

Vaccination speeds up in France

The acceleration of the campaign can be seen in the numbers.

In the first six days of April, 1.3 million injections were performed, out of a total of 12.7 million since December 27.

So far, 3.2 million people have been vaccinated (two doses) and 9.5 million have received their first injection.

The government is counting on larger supplies this month, with more than 12 million doses expected.

Symbol of this acceleration, the Stade de France opened its doors to the first bites on Tuesday, and on site, Europe 1 met candidates in a hurry and relieved vaccinated.

The objective of the health authorities is to achieve initially 10,000 injections per week in this enclosure in Seine-Saint-Denis.

During a visit, Prime Minister Jean Castex took the opportunity to confirm the objective of 10 million doses injected by mid-April, or even "from the end of this week".

Bugs complicate distance school

More than 10 million schoolchildren, college and high school students have returned to distance education, as last year, after the early closure of schools last Friday.

And like last year, many "bugs" have been reported by teachers, parents and students, due to saturated networks, making digital workspaces inaccessible.

Covid-19: what we know about the computer bugs that disrupted school at home

For his part, the Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, assured that part of the problems could be explained by attacks on computer servers from abroad.

From Friday evening, France will begin two weeks of unified school holidays, before a return to class hoped for on April 26 for primary.

"There shouldn't be a new confinement", Macron tells college students

Emmanuel Macron invited himself to a history class by exchanging Tuesday afternoon with college students by videoconference, to whom he assured that there should not be "new confinement by the end of the year school".

To the question of a schoolboy asking him if there would be “another confinement before the end of the year?”, Emmanuel Macron replied: “we will do everything to avoid that. I often say that the master of time it's the virus, but I really want the school to stay open as much as possible ”.

At the end of the weeks of closure of schools, "we think that we will have slowed down the virus everywhere and we will have accelerated the vaccination. This will allow us to be in a more comfortable situation" and to "take the virus in a pincer movement between braking measures and vaccination ".

"And so I think, until the end of the school year, there shouldn't be a new lockdown."

More than 30,000 hospitalized patients

According to figures from Public Health France, 30,639 patients were hospitalized Tuesday evening, against 29,907 the day before, the highest total since the end of November, during the second wave of the epidemic.

Among these patients, 5,626 are in intensive care units, against 5,433 on Monday.

In 24 hours, 409 new deaths were recorded at the hospital, for a total of 97,301 since the start of the epidemic, including nursing homes.

The number of confirmed cases of contamination in 24 hours is 8,045, a low total which can be explained by the fact that we are coming out of the Easter long weekend, where people have been tested less.

As of Friday, more than 46,000 new infections had been reported.

The positivity rate, which measures the percentage of people positive for Covid-19 out of all those tested, stood at 7.5% over the last seven days.

EMA continues its evaluations of the AstraZeneca vaccine

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said on Tuesday it was still evaluating whether the AstraZeneca vaccine is potentially linked to the formation of rare blood clots, which have been reported in several countries.

The announcement comes hours after an EMA official mentioned the existence of a "link" between the AstraZeneca vaccine and the cases of thrombosis observed after its administration, in an interview with the Italian daily Il Messaggero published on Tuesday.

The EMA security committee "has yet to come to a conclusion and the review is currently underway," the Amsterdam-based agency said in a statement.

"We will communicate and organize a press point as soon as the examination is finalized", added the European regulator, specifying that an announcement is for the moment expected Wednesday or Thursday.

In France, the family of a 63-year-old man, who died in March of "multiple thromboses" after receiving a first injection of the vaccine, filed a complaint against X for "manslaughter".
