August Strindberg (1849-1912) was productive as few and his authorship includes plays, novels, short stories, scientific writings, debate posts, pamphlets and more, together just over 70 volumes - to this are added just over 9,000 letters.

All this, including "The Occult Diary", is now published as physical books in the so-called National Edition and digitally - free and for everyone - on Litteraturbanken.se.

"Unparalleled in Swedish history"

The first volume of the national edition was published in 1981, and since then several generations of Strindberg experts have worked with the publication, which is "unparalleled in modern Swedish history" according to a press release from the Swedish Literature Bank.

Parts of the authorship have also been a challenge to publish digitally.

“It is hardly possible to think of Swedish literature without Strindberg.

He and Selma Lagerlöf are portal figures at a central stage: through their words, experiences, insights and feelings flow that reflect our common cultural heritage - and question it.

It is a pleasure to be able to manage and communicate, ”says Mats Malm, Litteraturbanken's director and permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, in the press release.
