April 5 is the last day of the Qingming holiday and the peak of the return journey. There was a large area of delays in the high-speed railway at night at Guangzhou South Railway Station, which once caused heated discussions among netizens.

In response to media inquiries at noon on the 6th, the Guangzhou Railway Group stated that due to the heavy passenger flow of the Jiangzhan Railway, the downward line of the Jianghai-Jiangmen East Railway Station in the railway control system once appeared a "red band" phenomenon, affecting the traffic for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

In addition, there were more than 1,000 trains running at Guangzhou South Railway Station that day, and the concentrated arrival of trains caused the tight operation of Guangzhou Nangu Road, and the throat capacity reached saturation, so the degree of subsequent train delays continued to expand.

On the morning of the 6th, all affected trains at Guangzhou South Railway Station have been restored.

The red light belt is a railway technical term, which is a common fault in the railway control system.

In the system, the rails of the line are used as conductors to form a track circuit. When the two tracks are shorted by the wheels of the train, they will be displayed in red to indicate the position of the vehicle.

However, factors such as humidity, insulation damage, and lightning impact may cause the track on the car-free section to be short-circuited, showing an abnormal red band or "flashing red", making it difficult for the console to judge the actual situation.

The reporter consulted the "Operation Manual for Emergency Handling of Irregular Railway Operation", which contains a lot of instructions on the operation of the red light belt.

Among them, the manual states that “when a red light zone appears in an obstructed zone within the interval, the continuous train can be sent only after the previous train arrives at the neighboring station or not less than 10 minutes after the previous train is sent.”

During the Tomb-sweeping period, short-distance visits to relatives and friends and tourist flow surged, especially the Guangzhou-Zhuhai, Chang-Zhu-Tan intercity brought great convenience to the realization of the same day round trip.

According to published statistics, the peak of passenger flow at Guangzhou South Railway Station during the Qingming Festival occurred on April 3, with 654,000 passenger arrivals, of which 423,000 passengers were sent, a record high for single-day passenger shipments during the Qingming holiday since the opening of the station.
