Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) urges new clear measures to stop the increase in corona infections.

This made "restrictions necessary for us again," said Scholz on Tuesday in Berlin.

As examples, he cited exit restrictions, more tests in schools and in companies.

Even when working from home, his impression is “that more is possible”.

Scholz expressed himself irritated about the move by NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) to bring forward the next federal-state top-level talks on the corona crisis, which had been planned for next Monday.

The SPD politician accused Laschet of not complying with the previous agreements to combat the pandemic.

In this respect, it does not help to “meet somewhere”, but the decisions that are now required have to be well prepared and, above all, implemented.

Scholz referred to the agreement between the Prime Ministers and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) from the beginning of March on opening perspectives, but also on their withdrawal if the infection levels rise again.

This has also happened in many federal states, but not in North Rhine-Westphalia, where "the exit restrictions have not become a reality in the same way as in other states".

"I think it would be good if everyone honored this appointment we have with each other," demanded the Vice Chancellor.

Everyone who has responsibility in the countries should now “understand how serious the situation is”.

Clear and understandable rules are necessary.

“To be clear, it is important to say what is to be done and then to do what we have said,” emphasized Scholz.

"We must not gamble away our successes in fighting the pandemic shortly before our goal," urged the SPD politician to act.

It is now a matter of “using all the force that goes into every final spurt”.

"Well thought-out and well-prepared steps" and, above all, a "uniform approach" are important for this.

With regard to the tests in companies, Scholz again announced legal requirements if these were not adequately offered.

On Monday, Laschet spoke out in favor of a new "bridge lockdown" for the time when there were not yet sufficient vaccination offers.
