Due to a lack of corona vaccine, two of six vaccination centers in Berlin will be closed at short notice.

The German press agency learned from Senate circles that operations in the arena in Treptow and the Messe vaccination center will be closed on Tuesday.

The vaccine from the manufacturer BioNTech was last administered in both centers.

In Berlin, as in the whole of Germany, vaccinations begin by general practitioners.

Berlin's Senator for Health Dilek Kalayci hopes that this will bring new momentum to the corona vaccination campaign.

"We are now betting that the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians will do what it has always named as its strength, namely being able to vaccinate people quickly," said the SPD politician of the German Press Agency.

According to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) Berlin, it is unclear how many general practitioners' practices in Berlin participate in vaccination, as the practices order their vaccination doses through pharmacies.

It was unlikely that everyone would vaccinate on Tuesday.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, 19.7 million doses of vaccine have been delivered to date.

Of these, 75.3 percent were vaccinated.

The backlog of non-inoculated cans has risen to a record value of 4.9 million cans.

As WELT reported, the backlog had already become apparent the previous week.

The Federal Ministry of Health initially did not update the data.
