The 18 sites selected in 2021 for the Heritage Lottery "reflect the diversity of heritage - there are religious buildings such as civil, agricultural, industrial or military buildings, including houses of famous personalities, but also some castles", welcomed the Minister of Culture.

From the house of Marcel Proust's aunt Léonie to a former children's penitentiary in Reunion Island, the Heritage Foundation has chosen 18 very different sites for the new edition of the lottery, allowing their rescue.

This is the fourth edition of the Heritage Mission for the safeguarding of endangered heritage, entrusted to the host Stéphane Bern.

The 18 sites "reflect the diversity of heritage - there are religious buildings such as civil, agricultural, industrial or military buildings, including houses of famous personalities, but also some castles", welcomed the Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot in a press release.

The sites will benefit from donations and sponsorship

Among the lucky ones are an old dilapidated building of the Richelieu Stables in Gennevilliers, in the Hauts-de-Seine, the Marcel Proust-Maison de Tante Léonie Museum in Illiers-Combray, in Eure-et-Loir, a house of a blacksmith in Haute-Marne, the house of Louis Pasteur in Arbois, in the Jura, the windmill of a sugar factory in Marie-Galante, or the cathedral of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul, in Guadeloupe .

The endowments granted through the Loto du Patrimoine will be announced during the next European Heritage Days in the autumn.

And, like every year, a hundred new additional so-called "mesh" sites (one per department) will also be announced at the beginning of September.

The agreement, which allows the Ministry of Culture to allocate to the Heritage Foundation the levy on the sums wagered within the framework of the lotto, has been renewed for a new period of four years.

The sites may also benefit from donations and sponsorship and, for historic monuments, subsidies from the ministry.
