Volunteers to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine do not jostle in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais.

This weekend, 1,200 doses of the treatment went unused and remained in the refrigerators.

A mistrust that has worsened since the temporary suspension of its administration by the government on March 15.

Appointments canceled, vaccination centers closed before the time ... In the Nord and Pas-de-Calais, the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 is shunned by the population after the controversy around its potential risk of thrombosis .

Hundreds of doses have therefore not found a taker this weekend and a little less than 1,200 of them remained in the refrigerators.

As a result, three vaccination centers had to close their doors in Gravelines, Boulogne-sur-Mer and Calais for lack of volunteers.

Patient mistrust since his suspension

A reluctance that has several explanations, according to the mayor of Calais, Natacha Bouchard.

"Originally, the caregivers refused him. Then, his suspension by the government still created doubt in the minds of people. And this mistrust worsened. I noticed that all the centers that received AstraZeneca had the same problem as me, "regrets the elected representative who would have liked a national communication campaign to promote this Anglo-Swedish vaccine.

As for all these unadministered doses, they are not thrown away and return to the Calais hospital.

But this lack of volunteers is a disappointment, especially for the staff mobilized in the centers.

Especially since according to one of the doctors who officiates there, this Easter weekend was the last for the first injections.

There will therefore be no more first doses next week.

Now it's time for reminders.
