In view of the rapidly increasing corona numbers in Germany and the attitude of some countries, the infection medicine specialist Helmut Fickenscher believes federal intervention is foreseeable.

"For Germany as a whole, I see a need for action," said the President of the German Association for Combating Virus Diseases of the German Press Agency.

"The big warning calls are not really wrong." Chancellor Angela Merkel had stated that she was thinking about clearer guidelines for the countries.

They won't watch until there are 100,000 new infections a day.

The legally required containment of the infection process has not been achieved.

Schleswig-Holstein has a very clear special role with the lowest seven-day incidence in Germany, said Fickenscher, who heads the Institute for Infection Medicine in Kiel at the Schleswig-Holstein University Medical Center.

"But if nationwide decisions are necessary, Schleswig-Holstein will not be able to shut itself off."

Planning model projects now, as Schleswig-Holstein plans for tourism, culture and sport from April 19, is “ultimately an optimistic view” for Fickenscher.

With increasing incidences, their benefits are also very limited.

"I think it is possible that the basis for the model projects will shortly be suspended for the time being, should the federal government decide in favor of more consistent measures."
