The Covid-19 self-tests will be available in pharmacies from April 12, Health Minister Olivier Véran announced on Friday in an interview with online media Brut.

"From April 12, pharmacies will be able to sell self-tests to those who wish to buy them," said the minister, in this interview broadcast live on Facebook.

"It will be a useful addition" to other methods, he said.

Less unpleasant tests

Olivier Véran specified that these self-tests, being “a health product” would not be available in supermarkets because they had to be sold by health professionals, able to explain their operation.

These self-sample nasal swab tests are a little easier and less disagreeable than deep nasopharyngeal tests, the gold standard for current RT-PCR and antigen testing.

The Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) has given the green light to the deployment of these self-tests, but in its opinion published on March 16, it specifies that any positive self-test must then be confirmed by an RT-PCR test, in particular to be able to count it as a positive case and to characterize a possible variant.
