The secretary general of the CFDT Laurent Berger called on Friday for a "great youth plan" to ensure "a catching up of solidarity" with regard to 15-25 year olds who "have been going through a terrible ordeal for over a year" in due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

"I call for a vast plan of investment and solidarity with regard to young people", declared on France 2 the leader of the first French union.

"Our generation will have a duty to this youth who is paying a heavy price," he added, acknowledging that "we will have to look at how we finance" this "solidarity catch-up plan".

RSA for young people

He cited "the 15-25 year olds", who "have been going through a terrible ordeal for over a year", either "for economic reasons, or of social ties, or of access to normal schooling".

"All psychological studies show that these are the ones who are most affected today," he argued.

"In the months to come, we will need this great youth plan which takes into account the economic, psychological and social impacts" of the health crisis, insisted the number one of the CFDT.

Among the measures that he would like to see included in this plan, Laurent Berger cited “the RSA (active solidarity income) for young people, with an allowance and support for professional integration”.

He also wished "a priority reception, when we can do it, to culture, with why not culture vouchers, leisure vouchers".

In addition, he mentioned "the possibility for these young people to be able to travel, to go more to Europe because some of them have been forced", in particular students deprived of an Erasmus stay.
