Beijing Youth Daily reporter interviewed the service team of Beijing Dongjiao Funeral Home

Family service to guard the end of life

  It's another year of Qingming.

In the funeral parlour in the eastern suburbs of Beijing, magnolias bloomed quietly, concealing the high and low Chinese pavilions.

As one of two funeral homes in Beijing, Dongjiao Funeral Home is located near Pingfang Bridge outside the East Fifth Ring Road.

In recent years, the industry has often used the term "earth-shaking" to describe the services of funeral homes in the Eastern Suburbs.

Not only is the environment better and the hardware improved, but the core lies in the upgrade of "software": the use of "family services" to make the deceased walk decently, and to comfort the living.

Birth, old age, sickness and death never divide time. Here, with respect for the deceased and understanding of family members, these ferrymen at the end of their lives stick to it 365 days a year.

Service guidance, body cremation, funeral hosting, ashes storage and retrieval... They hope to make the final farewell of their lives to the extreme.

During the Qingming Festival, reporters from Beijing Youth Daily approached the service team of the funeral home in the eastern suburbs to tell the story of the ferrymen.

Zhang Jun, Director of the Negotiation Center

Acting as a confidant of family members

"The negotiation center should be responsible for receiving family members' telephone consultations. It is also the first stop of the business of the Dongjiao Funeral Home. What we say and do are representative of the Dongjiao, and there can be no defects!" As the director of the Dongjiao Funeral Home Negotiation Center, Zhang Jun has strict requirements on the work of himself and his 8 colleagues.

After 16 years in the industry, he has served every family member of the deceased with dedication, professionalism and sincerity.

"Someone in the family has passed away. In addition to grief and sometimes panic, we have to act as confidants of the family and help solve all difficult problems." Zhang Jun said that after the negotiation center has completed the docking with the family, it will visit the library according to the needs. The business departments involved in the department carry out scheduling, including hearse arrangements, corpse transfers, appointments for cremation, etc., and each item must be properly arranged.

"Especially the time issue, including the time of the hearse, the address of the remains, the time of the cremation of the remains, the number of times the farewell hall is used, and the name of the farewell hall, because this will involve all aspects of the family's affairs that day." Zhang Jun Say.

For funeral services, one can't laugh, two can't cry, three can't be cold, and four can't be deadpan and expressionless.

Zhang Jun asked the team members to serve their families with sincerity and warmth.

Once, a man called for a consultation phone, and his worries about costs were revealed in his words, which seemed unspeakable.

The experienced Zhang Jun immediately understood the difficulties of his family members, and he gave a detailed introduction to the funeral and funeral policies in the museum.

Hearing that the people in difficulty can do funerals for free, their family members suddenly cried on the phone and kept asking: "Is it true?" "The Dongjiao Funeral Home is a public institution affiliated to the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau. It is for the people."

Sure enough, the family came to the funeral home that same day.

It turned out that he was a migrant worker. Not long after he and his father came to Beijing to work, his father died of a sudden illness. The two of them did not save money when they first came to Beijing. After seeing the illness, they had no money to handle the funeral for the elderly.

Zhang Jun immediately consulted the leaders of the library and obtained relevant free policies for the family members according to the procedures.

The negotiation room of the Dongjiao Funeral Home has been established for more than 3 years. Zhang Jun has served countless family members. He said that he must use the warmest service to take the deceased on the last journey.

"As long as the family needs it, we should do it."

Service Center Director Wang Wei

Flexibility to highlight the service temperature

In 2010, Wang Wei formally joined the Dongjiao Funeral Home.

"Revolutionary comrades are bricks, and wherever they need to be moved." Wang Wei has worked in the guidance center, cremation workshop, and funeral convoy.

In the end, the library leaders thought that Wang Wei was familiar with the business of each department, and that he had "outstanding personal morality, good service attitude, and strong sense of responsibility", so he was selected as the director of the service center.

As the leader of the department, Wang Wei must connect the past and the next, not only implement the will of the library leadership, highlight the concept of "family service", warm every family member, and at the same time grasp the "nervous ending" of the service.

As for the "family service", it is up to Wang Wei to flexibly refine the level of family affection.

For example, if you forget to bring your ID card, the photo of your ID card stored in your mobile phone can be printed out. To serve the elderly, you must treat the elderly as your own grandparents.

"As long as the family members make a request and do not violate the rules and regulations of the museum, we will try our best to satisfy what can be satisfied, and reflect the service temperature through flexibility." Wang Wei said.

Under the leadership of Wang Wei, the service staff of the whole center serve every family member with patience and care step by step.

Wang Wei recalled that last winter, a 79-year-old grandmother came to see his wife for the last time.

Because the children are abroad, only the grandmother comes to do business.

The grandma's ears are somewhat impaired, and the service staff took the trouble to tell grandma the precautions in every link.

Grandma couldn't remember some items, so the service staff wrote them down step by step with pen and paper.

The grandmother had inconvenience in legs and feet and was slow to walk, so the service staff suggested that grandma be in a wheelchair.

It only takes about 20 minutes for normal family members to complete all the procedures. This time, the service staff patiently accompanied them for an hour.

Afterwards, the old man wrote a letter of commendation to the service center.

"The service of your library touches people's hearts!" Wang Wei was very impressed by these words, "This is the greatest inspiration to all of our staff." There are countless letters of similar praise.

Wang Wei found the value of his career from the affirmation of his family.

"To do funeral is to do good and to accumulate virtue, and to do a cause of conscience!"

Xie Fushun, Deputy Director of Service Center

Serving family members should empathize and compare hearts

Xie Fushun can be said to be an "old comrade" in the funeral industry, with nearly 20 years of experience in the industry.

He officially entered the Dongjiao Funeral Home in 2017, and he has been working in the service center ever since.

"Anyone who comes here is in a particularly sad mood. We must learn to empathize, hoping to use our service to bring them a little bit of relief."

The small details create the warmth of the service, and there are countless examples of this.

In 2018, a 19-year-old girl escorted her father's body to the museum for business.

The father and daughter depended on each other. The father fell ill, and the girl accompanied her father to Beijing to see a doctor, but before the illness was cured, the father passed away in the hospital.

The girl hugged her father's body and cried when she got off the car.

Seeing such a scene, Xie Fushun was touched in his heart and accompanied her to finish the business.

"Uncle, where should I take the bus?" It was dark after the cremation, and there was a trace of fear in the girl's eyes.

"Go, uncle will accompany you." Xie Fushun accompanied the girl and sent her to the bus stop of No. 496 at the entrance of the funeral home.

Before getting on the bus, the girl held her father's ashes and bowed deeply to Xie Fushun, "Thank you, uncle." Xie Fushun was moved by the sentence "Thank you".

Xie Fushun returned to the unit only after seeing the girl safely boarded the bus.

"My hometown is Chengde. As a northern drifter, I know that kind of uncomfortable and helplessness. I am also sad, and I also have a daughter." Xie Fushun said, "Compare your heart to your heart." For Dongjiao Funeral Home Xie Fushun is grateful for this job.

2020 is not going well for Xie Fushun. On New Year's Eve, Xie Fushun's father suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Fortunately, the rescue was timely and his life was out of danger.

In April last year, Xie Fushun had a traffic accident and had an emergency craniotomy. He also walked through Guimenguan.

Taking into account the financial situation of Xie Fushun's family, all employees of Dongjiao Funeral Home donated money to Xie Fushun to help him tide over the difficulties.

Since then, Xie Fushun has also repaid the unit with his practical actions, being more attentive to his work and more patient with his family members.

Wei Yanru, Deputy Director of Service Center

Attention to every detail

As an old employee with 15 years of work experience, Wei Yanru has experienced more than 10,000 funerals and farewell ceremonies, witnessed tender tears, and witnessed the world's scorching heat.

The funeral home is greeted and sent every day, but what remains unchanged is Wei Yanru's attitude of serving the deceased with heart.

Wei Yanru said that by doing this, she has become stronger and stronger.

Just storing the remains requires a strong psychological endurance.

In order to ensure the accuracy of the deceased's identity, Wei Yanru and her colleagues must carefully check the deceased's identity in front of her family members and inform the family of the status of the deceased's body.

The corpses sent here are in different states. Some have been highly decomposed, and some have become completely unrecognizable due to a car accident. Wei Yanru is always compassionate and serves attentively.

Having worked in the funeral industry for many years, she is famous for her meticulousness.

Once, she took a business from 8 am to 12 noon.

On the one hand, there are many family members; on the other hand, the remains are transported from other places and need to go through some procedures, and the family members have to make an appointment for the farewell ceremony.

This is a test for the physical strength, energy and ability of the service staff.

Wei Yanru remembered that after the initial communication with her family, she immediately wrote a farewell ceremony planning document, from the time of the farewell ceremony, the order of speeches, the string of words, and even the details of what colors to wear and what not to wear. Kind of jewelry.

"There is no small matter in funeral and funeral. Any error in any link is a major issue for the family. Therefore, we must pay attention to every detail."

Faced with different people every day, the ability of service personnel to adapt to changes is more important.

For example, when the guest "airborne" during the farewell ceremony, she must be flexible; the child suddenly cries, she must cleverly calm down; the family members have conflicts and no one can help the deceased, she will reach out to help...as the "old host" , Wei Yanru can always stabilize the "town field".

In fact, Wei Yanru is full of honors by virtue of her professional level: the second place in the Funeral Attendant Professional Competition of the 4th Beijing Vocational Skills Competition, and the "National Technical Expert" in the 8th National Civil Affairs Professional Skills Competition.

Huang Shuxian, the former minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, once instructed: "We must publicize more advanced models like Wei Yanru."

Director of Cremation Office Wu Chong

Keep baby ashes for young couples

After retiring from the army, Wu Chong applied for a job as a fire chemical in the funeral home in the eastern suburbs.

"Although his family did not support it at the time, I think it would be good to have a practical job." Wu Chong, born in 1988, has a simple and great understanding of his work, because he firmly believes that civil affairs is the cause of Bodhisattva.

With this bodhisattva heart, he endured the high temperature in the scorching heat and was willing to be lonely in the cold winter. He has been in the cremation room of the Dongjiao funeral home for nearly 6 years.

Some people say that the work of cremation is very simple, that is, "stand in front of the furnace, press a button, and take a look at the ashes."

But Wu Chong doesn't think so, "It's not easy to do every simple thing well."

Every day, he and his colleagues pay attention to the cremation status of each body and record the relevant technical parameters in detail.

In the past few years, they have accumulated more than 10 work records, and they have also researched and formulated the "Fire Chemical Industry Training Manual" and so on.

They taught themselves maintenance techniques, submitted more than 40 energy-saving and emission-reduction work suggestions for the unit, and saved the unit more than 2 million yuan in total.

When serving his family members, Wu Chong can always think in another way and try his best to meet the needs of his family members.

Once, a young couple found Wu Chong holding the remains of their infant baby and said they wanted the ashes of the child.

Generally, the bones of babies are small and light. Under the action of the blast system, it is difficult to leave ashes after cremation.

Wu Chong, who had just become a father, deeply felt the pain and expectation of the young couple: "I will try."

The cremation process was long and tormenting.

Every few minutes, he observes the burning situation in the furnace, not knowing how many times.

Finally, when he saw a small handful of tender ashes left in the furnace, he was relieved.

After the cremation was over, his shirt had already been saturated with sweat.

After tearing away the small handful of ashes, the young couple kept thanking Wu Chong.

Afterwards, the family stuffed a thick stack of banknotes into Wu Chong's hands, but Wu Chong refused.

"This is my duty and duty. If I accept this kind of gratitude, I will be sorry for the party emblem on my chest."

Director Yun Bin

Long-distance memorial service at three o'clock in the morning

Standing 1.92 meters tall, he is the tallest handsome guy in the Dongjiao funeral home.

On the basketball court, he conquered the city and sweated like rain; on the work field, he was dressed in a black uniform, serving every deceased and his family with heart.

Yun Bin, born in 1986, came to the Dongjiao Funeral Home in 2008 and moved around in many business departments in the hall. Now he has become the backbone of the hall.

The deceased is gone, and Yun Bin hopes to do his best to provide comfort and service to the living.

The situation of family members is different. Some are old, poor or bedridden, and cannot personally go to the eastern suburbs to pay homage to the deceased; some family members are far abroad and cannot return home temporarily. How to express their grief?

Especially since the epidemic last year, many family members have been unable to go to the scene to remember the dead. Therefore, the Dongjiao Funeral Home has launched a sacrifice service.

As the director of the Columbarium Church, Yun Bin came up with various ways to meet the needs of his family members, including remote live video broadcasting, recording videos, and taking photos, all in order to satisfy the family members.

Whether it is to add sacrifices to the deceased, place flowers, or to remember them remotely in various time periods according to the requirements of the family members, Yun Bin and his team are as satisfied as possible.

At the end of March last year, a male family member living abroad called the columbarium and wanted to make an appointment for his mother's sacrifice.

Because he couldn't return to China, he hoped to do it through live broadcast.

For this sacrifice, he and the two team members did not go home specially and slept in the office.

At 3 o'clock in the morning, the three of them got up to wash, changed their work clothes, and were ready in the columbarium.

At 3:40, I clicked on the video on the phone on time to remotely scan for the family members. The whole process lasted 20 minutes.

"In fact, we can totally refuse, but I am also a son of man and a father. I can understand his feelings. After all, this is my job." Yun Bin said lightly.

Nowadays, sacrifice service is more and more popular among the people.

Especially affected by the epidemic, Yun Bin and his colleagues provided sacrifice services for nearly two hundred times during the Qingming period last year.

This year Tomb-sweeping Festival has arrived, and Yun Bin and all the team members are still on duty, paying homage to the deceased and comforting relatives with affectionate services.

There are 28 professional funeral vehicles in our hall. Everyone has to be sure. The black ones with a uniform logo and the name of the funeral home are regular vehicles. We will continue to think and summarize. In the future, we hope to enter more communities and promote the benefits of the people. The funeral and interment policy advocates generous support and thin burial, and also does more practical things for the people."
