On April 1, the reporter saw in the demonstration base for improving saline-alkali rice cultivation in Yuepu Lake County, technicians and local people were busy planting and covering the soil. In early May, these rice seedlings could be transplanted.

The sea rice base uses a self-built nursery to effectively improve the adaptability of sea rice to the local soil through independent seedlings. In addition, it also uses new nutrient fertilizers to effectively promote the growth of salt-tolerant sea rice roots, improve drought resistance, and ensure Yield per mu.

Yuepu Lake County is located on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert. It is arid and rainless. 90% of the cultivated land is damaged by salinization. It belongs to the severely saline-alkali land and is regarded as "agricultural desert."

In 2018, the team of Academician Yuan Longping chose Aregaimai Village, Bayiawati Township, Yuepuhu County, as one of the first batch of saline-alkali rice cultivation improvement test bases in the country, and planted 80 mu of sea rice.

After three years of trial planting, the output far exceeded the estimated target of 300 kg per mu.

In 2020, there will be another bumper harvest of sea rice, with a yield of 548.53 kg per mu.

Yuepuhu County has succeeded in trial planting of sea rice for three consecutive years, which is of great significance.

In 2021, Qingdao Sea Rice R&D Center plans to continue to plant 300 mu of "sea rice" in Yuepuhu County based on the successful trial planting in the previous three years.
