While discussions are underway on whether to allow the use of cannabis-based drugs in the medical field, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has begun studying the implementation of the first clinical trial in Japan with a view to practical application.

Several drugs made from cannabis grass have been approved in the United States and other countries, and some are also used as treatments for intractable epilepsy.

On the other hand, in Japan, it is subject to regulation by the Cannabis Control Law, and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has set up a study group to discuss whether to allow it to be used in the medical field.

At a meeting of the study group held on the 31st, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced that it has begun studying clinical trials for drugs made from cannabis grass with a view to practical application.

It is said that the research group has already set up and discussed the specific method.

It will be the first time in Japan that a clinical trial of a drug made from cannabis grass will be conducted, and the research group will compile a report by the end of next month.
