Different versions of the story are intertwined.

The Archbishop of Canterbury appears to contradict statements by Prince Harry's wife Meghan Markle that the prelate celebrated their union before their official marriage in front of television cameras, in an interview with an Italian newspaper published on Wednesday.

Harry, grandson of Queen Elizabeth and younger son of Prince Charles, married the American actress on May 19, 2018 in a lavish ceremony in Windsor.

But in an interview with Oprah Winfrey aired this month, Meghan revealed that they had exchanged vows privately in front of Archbishop Justin Welby three days before the official event.

"I will not reveal what happened during other meetings"

“I had several private and pastoral meetings with the Duke and Duchess before their marriage,” the Archbishop told

La Repubblica

.

“The legal marriage was held on Saturday [May 19].

I signed the marriage certificate, which is a legal document, and I would have committed a serious offense if I had signed it knowing that it was false ”.

“The legal marriage took place on Saturday,” he insisted, “but I will not reveal what happened in other meetings.

"

During the interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said: “Three days before the ceremony, we got married.

No one knows.

But we called the Archbishop and we said: "Listen, this show is for the world, but we want to have our union between us".
