It was taken over at the end of 2019 by the NGO coalition Rewild, which wanted to turn it into a rehabilitation center for wild animals.

A little over a year after the takeover, the Bretagne Zoo company which managed the former Pont-Scorff zoo in Morbihan was placed in liquidation.

“The Lorient Commercial Court on Monday pronounced the liquidation of SARL Bretagne Zoo with continued activity until the end of June.

The candidates for the takeover have until April 30 to propose a project, ”indicates on his Facebook page Rewild, a shareholder of around 70% of Bretagne Zoo, of which the NGO for the defense of marine ecosystems Sea Shepherd is a member.

The company was in debt to the tune of 1.4 million euros.

"Sea Shepherd is actively working on a takeover proposal so that the initial project carried by Rewild does not flow with SARL Bretagne Zoo," the statement added.

According to Rewild, in open conflict with the former manager Jérôme Pensu, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, "despite its very critical view of the management of the SARL, has agreed to release 50,000 euros for food and animal care during the transitional period. , the time for the court to rule on the selected project ”.

"Avoid it becoming a zoo again"

“If there was a takeover project with the necessary skills, we would be happy to let it go, but it can't be the former manager because it would fail again.

We also want to prevent it from becoming a zoo again, ”said Lamya Essemlali, President of Sea Shepherd France.

On his Facebook page, Jérôme Pensu congratulates himself on having succeeded in stimulating the debate on wild animals in captivity: “We have highlighted the fact that it is quite possible to release animals that have been born. in captivity.

[…] Everything remains to be written.

A team was formed, it was put to the test.

It is therefore particularly solid and it very clearly wants to continue this mission of managing seized animals, ”he says in a video.
