They were called Fabrice, Lionel or Angel, and during the last year, they died on the Toulouse public highway.

While a tribute is paid to the 535 Dead of the street this March 30 in Paris, the newspaper

La Croix

drew up the list of these missing.

Among which there are 23 people dead in the streets of the Toulouse conurbation, including 21 in those of the Viller rose.

After Paris, it is the second city in France with the most homeless people who died in these conditions.

According to the precious work of @Mortsdelarue, out of the 535 people identified as having died on the streets in 2020, after Paris, it is in #Toulouse that we die the most on the streets in France with 21 registered victims.

“This census is obviously not exhaustive because many people dying in the street are unfortunately not known, which suggests many more victims of the failure of public authorities in this area.

A sad record of deaths, which unfortunately reveals a constant for several years and which cannot be decorrelated from the lack of resources allocated to the public authorities to help the homeless ”, reacted the opposition municipal councilor François Piquemal, former spokesperson for the Right to Housing in Toulouse.

For this elected official, "the gentrification" of the city center prevents the popular classes from being able to find accommodation there.

And the production of social housing in Haute-Garonne is not large enough to meet needs.

More than 40,000 households would thus be in the department awaiting allocation of social housing.

People who meanwhile are sometimes housed while waiting in temporary emergency accommodation, which is in fact saturated.
