How and who founded the company Marae was born 42 years ago in the town of Villarrín de Campos (Zamora).

My uncles, Isabel and Gerardo, were in charge of the administration and marketing;

my mother, Luisa, who was a dressmaker, was in charge of the tailoring, and my father, Isaías, of the weaving.

It was at this time that they began to make the classic Austrians (my uncle is Austrian).

Four decades later we continue to make them with the same methods. Why are you called Marae Kids? In 2010 we moved to Coreses, a town closer to Zamora, that was when the company became the property of my sister and me.

The brand is the union of our names: Manoli (Ma) and Raúl (Ra) Escudero (E).

We are dedicated to making women's and men's clothing, we made something as a child, but it was small.

In 2012, through a commercial agent in Madrid, we bet very strongly on the children's line, those first models that we designed have been the most successful to date.

When did the exports arrive? In 2016, but very punctually, because we sent garments to a Spanish client living in London.

A year later and thanks to a study by a specialized publisher, which gave us a 10 in the product valuation, we knew that we had real possibilities of working in other markets.

In 2018 our exports began to grow and it was in 2020 when our sales have had a great increase despite the pandemic

Which is the first foreign country that consumes your products? It is the USA Thanks to the work of a large distributor, we have succeeded there with designs for children, although we hope that this year the demand for the women's collection will increase.

We will also grow in Asian countries: Japan, South Korea and China, which in the medium term may be our main destination.

Foreign customers highly value the quality of our coats, the history of the company and our traditional way of manufacturing. Can you give us an approximate figure of what exports represent in the total volume of the brand? Last year we grew by 25% In sales compared to 2019, our exports multiplied almost threefold and currently represent 60% of the total, that is why we did not register negative figures.

The forecasts are for great growth in the coming years, specifically, starting in 2022. Is the rise in sales and exports due to the fact that your garments are worn by the Princes of Cambridge?

As soon as the princes come out in the media with our Austrians or coats, they sell out at the Amaia Kids store in London, which is where they buy them.

They usually make an urgent order to us right away and we send it to them as soon as possible.

The repercussion is enormous.

Our responsiveness is also very fast.

As a curious fact, the bottle green coat that Charlotte wore at the 2019 Christmas mass, was a special request, it was longer than normal, because the princess is very tall for her age.
