High-top parties, coated paper romances, anthological bachelor parties, lots of
champagne
and the most extensive list of local and international celebrities in the capital.
Until its closure in 2018, the Gabana nightclub, on the ground floor of the luxurious Wellington Madrid hotel, was synonymous with
beautiful people
and famous DJs such as Bimba Bosé or Mario Vaquerizo.
Now, in the basement of this mythical five-star hotel on Calle Velázquez number 6, music is still being heard and the hips are swaying.
But it is no longer nightly and treacherous, but under the watchful eye of
Le Max Wellness Club Wellington
instructors
:
the space occupied by the nightclub has reopened its doors two years later as a sports club for members and hotel guests.
Like everything Wellington does, which has taken advantage of the confinement to superbly renovate all its facilities, Le Max is not just another gym in the capital.
To begin with, its CEO is
Álex Escudero
(Madrid, 1974), a former ACB player and physiotherapist by profession, with an extensive curriculum as a high-performance instructor and coach.
Le Max Club's official crossfit box.
Escudero has surrounded himself with a team of professional athletes of different nationalities who teach the collective classes - never more than six people per session - and are in charge of remotely monitoring the partners thanks to a cloud in which they can access videos and demos to exercise anywhere they are.
But let's go back to Le Max, ancient Gabana.
The 800 m2 center -very well used and with an impeccable interior design- has a spa with soft lighting and a calm atmosphere in which the Finnish sauna, the Turkish bath and a
16-meter long
indoor pool stand out
, as well as several cabins for facial and body treatments with products from the cosmetic firm Clarins.
In the sports hall, Le Max offers its 300 members
high-performance
activities
divided into four clubs -or
boutiques
, as they like to call
it-
:
Crossfit
(they pride themselves on being the only official space -
box
, in the slang- of the entire Salamanca district);
a study of
cycling
with state-
of-the-art
indoor
machines -
sessions given, by the way, by Escudero himself-;
the
Retiro Running Club
for amateur and professional runners;
and
Soul Hot Yoga,
for the practice of bikram yoga (at 40ºC ambient temperature in the room).
This offer is completed with a
fitness
corner
with innovative devices such as the Alter G anti-gravity belt. According to Laura Gómez, director of Le Max, "it is a treadmill that uses an anti-gravity system originating from NASA, which allows to reduce the gravity to which you are usually subjected and, therefore, your weight when running. If you have an injury, this is your machine ".
With this level of sports equipment Le Max will soon be, like Gabana, on everyone's lips.
