It comes a long way from this Malawi team which won its third qualification for the CAN by beating Uganda which nevertheless had the favor of the forecasts, after Burkina Faso, in this group B.

The Cranes can only blame themselves for having failed in the home stretch by scoring only one point out of six possible during these last two days of the March qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the Flames, who were three points behind Uganda, hit the mark by also defeating South Sudan (1-0) on Matchday 5.

Richard Mbula is the hero of the meeting by scoring the only goal of this "final" of group B. The striker from Baroka (South African Premier League) opened the scoring in the 15th minute by cutting with a header at the near post a center from right-back Stanley Sanudi.

The Cranes have never been able to pick up the score, even exposing themselves several times to the Malawians who will come up against a good Dennis Oyango.

Johnny McKinstry's men, eliminated in the last 16 of the last CAN, will surely regret for a long time their defeat on the 4th day against the weakest team in the group, South Sudan, beaten twice by Malawi.

After 1984 and 2010, the Flames therefore return to the African Cup, and it is far from undeserved.
