People with disabilities are more at risk of incest -

An association launched on Monday an investigation to collect the words of disabled people victims of incest, a "blind spot of society", hoping to collect testimonies on social networks via the hashtag #incestehandicap.

Inspired by the recent #Metooinceste, launched in the wake of the excitement caused by Camille Kouchner's book "La Familia grande", this hashtag should allow "to seek a difficult, ignored word", presented Danielle Michel-Chich, one of the three presidents of the association Women to say it, women to act (FDFA).

Improved awareness

The objective is "to draw up an inventory, because there are no figures, no statistics, no specific policy on this subject, a blind spot for society," she added during the meeting. 'a press conference.

Specialized in the fight against violence against women with disabilities, FDFA has an anonymous and free helpline for victims (Listening to violence for disabled women: 01.40.47.06.06).

Over the past three years, 3% of calls made on this line have concerned acts of incest, detailed Jocelyne Vaysse, psychiatrist and listener of the association.

However, “for 6% of calls, women coming to talk about domestic violence suffered in the present also mentioned incestuous violence suffered in the past, in early childhood”.

“Often, one only learns incidentally about incest, during long interviews.

All the victims speak of it with guilt and shame ”, added the psychiatrist, noting however“ a greater awareness thanks to the news ”.

"Easy prey"

“The state of vulnerability makes these children easy prey.

In addition, people with disabilities may have difficulty, or even an inability, to tell, to tell incestuous facts, which are already difficult to say for any victim ”, continued Alain Piot, sociologist and administrator of the association.

For each testimony collected under the hashtag, a sociologist - recruited on an internship by the association - will contact people to, if they wish, conduct individual interviews and be followed by the association's volunteers.

FDFA hopes to be able to deliver its conclusions around November 25, an annual day dedicated to the fight against violence against women.

She also wants to bring "a first stone" to the independent Commission on incest and sexual violence against children, launched in early March for at least two years by the government.
