From April 1st, "total price display", which displays the prices of goods and services including consumption tax, will be mandatory.

While it makes it easier for consumers to understand the actual price to be paid, there are also concerns from businesses that it may give the impression of a price increase and that it may affect sales.

In October 2013, before the consumption tax rate rose from 5% to 8%, the Special Measures Law was enacted to conditionally allow the display of prices of goods and services without tax, but it will be effective by the end of this month. Will disappear.

Along with this, from the 1st of next month, "total amount display" including consumption tax will be obligatory.

If the product or service has a main unit price of 3000 yen and a consumption tax of 300 yen, the business operator is obliged to display the price including tax of 3300 yen.

It is also permissible to display both tax-included and tax-excluded prices.

"Total amount display" is required not only for price tags and display shelves, but also for leaflets and catalogs.

It will be easier for consumers to understand the actual amount to be paid, but some businesses have the impression that it will raise prices and are concerned that it will affect sales, so we will develop clothing chains such as UNIQLO. As with FAST RETAILING, there are also moves to reduce prices so that the apparent price does not change even if the price is changed to the total price display.
