Maison Pépite recycles fabrics from major hotels -

Agathe Boudin

  • The very young eco-responsible Marseille brand Maison Pépite recycles and promotes fabrics from luxury hotels in the region.

  • After a first collection of accessories in presale, an e-shop should be launched in June.

She wanted to set up a responsible fashion project based on "upcycling".

To do this, Mathilde Godart did two things: first to leave Paris for Marseille, then to knock on the door of luxury hotels in the south of France.

“I did not know at all if they were in a green and responsible approach, I offered them to recover their dormant textiles or those destined to be thrown away,” rewinds the young founder of Maison Pépite.

From this first tour, she came back with six fabrics, from three different hotels.

“All the colors matched, it's chance!

Seeing the fabrics, how they responded, I got the idea of the collection of accessories rather than clothes.

»With the stylist Jocelyne Faubert, met through a circle of business creators, she designed a first series of clutches, headbands and scrunchies to clip, very seaside spirit.

The online presale, which features a great mix of ages and women, immediately took off.

The story of the fabric is told each time, like this mimosa yellow which we learn comes from the curtain of a palace located on the bay of Pampelonne, between Saint-Tropez and Ramatuelle.

Or the midnight blue of the bed skirts at the Intercontinental in Marseille, where customers can now discover the re-creations by Maison Pépite, in a window at the entrance.

Green key label

The Plum color range was cut from an old upholstery fabric from the La Résidence du Vieux-Port hotel.

Estelle Benzakin, commercial and communication attaché of the establishment, remembers the day the designer came to pick it up: “It was stored in a room, we never used them, I think we were able to give four meters.

"

When one is perhaps surprised at the price of accessories (47 euros for the beach and city pocket, or 20 euros for the darling), Mathilde Godart recalls the whole process of valuation to give a second high-end life to fabrics.

“You have to recover them, wash them, iron them, then there is a whole work of manufacturing and production by hand, it's local.

”Not to mention the little details that matter, such as the waterproof fabric inside the pockets, to go from the beach to the city, or the scrunchie clip to easily hang it on the ladder of a swimming pool, on a bag, or in his bathroom.

Our Luxe file

Mathilde Godart plans to launch her e-shop in June, and is already thinking about a second collection with accessories also for men.

To expand its stock of fabrics, it intends to forge partnerships with other palaces.

Who will undoubtedly be seduced by the welcome given to their first collection.

And also by the win-win recycling process: "We have had the Green Key label since January 2021, and this partnership with this eco-responsible brand pleased the jury who came to do the audit, it earned us bonus points", says. Estelle Benzakin from the hotel La Résidence du Vieux-Port.
