While they were leading 2-0 on the field of Burundi, the Fauves of the Central African Republic failed to hold their advantage and finally conceded a draw on Friday March 26 (2-2).

A result that does not suit either of the two teams, while waiting for the match between Mauritania and Morocco, the other two teams of group E.

The rain disrupted this match of the 5th and penultimate day of the group stage of the CAN 2021 qualifiers. It even delayed the start of the second period, in Bujumbura this Friday.

Perhaps these conditions troubled locals more than visitors.

Because the Central African Republic, it froze the Burundians on the ground of the Prince Louis-Rwagasore stadium, thanks to Louis Mafouta.

The striker, who is the delight of the Neuchâtel Xamax club in the Swiss second division, opened the scoring before the break (40th).

Shortly after the delayed start of the second act, he did it again (53rd).

At that point, the Central African Republic jumped from last place in Group E to second, two points ahead of their opponent.

But the Swallows came back to life on the hour mark. Saidi Ntibazonkiza closed the gap (59th), and Christophe Nduwarugira finally equalized (80th).

A frustrating scenario for the Central African Fauves, who hoped to hold their second victory in this group E and who remain last with this sharing of points.

Behind Morocco, leader already qualified with its 10 points, is the traffic jam.

Burundi is second with 5 points, like Mauritania, and the Central African Republic follows in fourth place with 4 points.

The Mauritanians will have the opportunity to strike a blow at 8 p.m. this Friday by welcoming Morocco.

If they win, they will eliminate the Central African Republic from the qualification race and they will take three points ahead of Burundi.

In the event of a defeat or a draw, everything will be possible on the 6th and final day, March 30.
