The health expert of the SPD Karl Lauterbach called for a hard lockdown in the ARD midday magazine.

"We have to get stability in and we won't get this stability without us now significantly tightening the lockdown," said Lauterbach on Thursday in view of the easing debate that Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans had opened today.

"You have to be honest, I see no other way than to work here with a curfew from 8 p.m., at least for a limited time for two weeks".

Until then, according to Lauterbach, tests should be expanded so that regular tests can also be carried out in companies.

Lauterbach pleaded that this must be done: "Otherwise we will lose another two weeks and then have case numbers in the middle or end of April around 200 or 300 per day, and that is very difficult to stop."

Meanwhile, the "No Covid" initiative has called on the federal government to act after the withdrawal of the Corona Easter rest.

"Which steps should be taken instead to bring the infection process under control remained open," said the initiative in a statement on Thursday.

"There is neither a defined goal nor a clear strategy to combat the pandemic".

In addition, measures such as corona tests, contact tracking and vaccinations have "not been used effectively", so that the country is "heading into a third, all projections very violent, pandemic wave".
