The Gabon team qualified for the next African Cup of Nations (CAN 2021) thanks to a 3-0 victory against DR Congo on March 25, 2021 in Franceville.

A result which eliminates the Congolese.

The Leopards will not be able to catch up in the group D standings of the Gambians who also beat Angola 1-0 on Thursday.

The Gambia will play its first CAN, in Cameroon.

First for Gambia, return for Gabon, fiasco for DR Congo.

Group D of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN 2021), delivered its verdict on March 25, 2021, before the last day scheduled for March 29.

Gambians and Gabonese secured the two qualifying places this Thursday, winning against the Angolans and the Congolese respectively.

The DRC-Gambia and Angola-Gabon meetings will therefore only serve to designate the first of the group.

Convincing Gabonese

Despite travel conditions and preparation very complicated by the Covid, the Panthers of Gabon are convincing in the first period.

In the 10th minute, launched on the right side, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, center back towards Denis Bouanga who takes the ball back.

This ricochets off the outside of the opposing right upright.

Even if the pace of play is not always very high in Franceville, the technical level is good, as illustrated by the superb goal of Aaron Boupendza.

In the 44th minute, the attacker launched into a series of hooks and body feints.

Placed on his left foot, he sends a heavy strike into the opposing right window: 1-0.

In the second period, Bouanga, not rewarded so far, concludes a counter-attack by slipping the ball between the legs of goalkeeper Joël Kiassumbua: 2-0, 72nd.

In the 85th minute, Aubameyang, left alone at the far post, drives the point home with a cross shot: 3-0.

After missing CAN 2019 in Egypt, Aubameyang and his gang will be back in neighboring Cameroon.

Congolese eliminated

This will not be the case for the Leopards of the DRC.

Beaten 0-3, they can no longer catch up with Gambia in the standings.

The Gambians have indeed won at the same time 1-0 against the Angolans thanks to an achievement by Assan Ceesay.

A great moment of happiness for Scorpions who had never played in the final phase.

For the Congolese, on the other hand, it is an end of the series, they who had taken part in the last four African Cups of Nations.
