A boy of about ten years of age remains admitted to the

pediatric

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

of

the Lucus Augusti University Hospital (HULA)

in

Lugo

with toxic shock linked to the coronavirus.

This has been confirmed by the head of Pediatrics of the HULA,

Roberto Pérez Pacín

, in statements this Wednesday, who explained that the minor has been admitted to the ICU since Monday and remains "stable" with a "prognosis practically out of danger, much better" .

Dr. Pérez Pacín has commented that this is the first case of toxic shock treated, which presents with high fever and abdominal pain, as in this minor who has had "peaks of 40" for three days.

Currently this child has already received the epidemiological discharge after having passed the

Covid-19

weeks ago

, but has been admitted due to the consequences of this coronavirus.

Specifically, the head of Pediatrics at HULA explained that "a month" passed since he had the Covid until he developed this shock, but in other cases "it can be between and six weeks," he clarified.

Asked about the differences between Kawasaki disease and toxic shock, this specialist in Pediatrics explained that the former manifests itself with skin symptoms and cardiac and mucosal involvement, while the latter involves "a drop in blood pressure" and "demands that we act quickly because it is a serious situation that occurs".

"A message of tranquility"

However, after ensuring that complications have been seen after passing the Covid-19 in children in several hospitals in Galicia, among which Vigo has cited;

A Coruña;

Santiago and Ourense, has launched a "message of tranquility" to families.

"Covid slightly affects children," he said, adding that "cases in which complications like this occur" in Lugo after overcoming the disease "caught in time have treatment" and "the evolution is always satisfactory."

"Caught in time, evolution is usually good", has abounded.

Likewise, he has pointed out that multisystemic conditions do not usually require admission to the Intensive Care Unit, but "this, as toxic shock, is always an ICU condition."

For this reason, he has insisted that when his symptoms appear, such as "high fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea", "he should always be consulted in the hospital".

Another girl admitted

At the beginning of March, a nine-year

-

old girl with

Covid-19

was also admitted, in that case in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Álvaro Cunqueiro de Vigo Hospital, with a favorable evolution, with the systemic inflammatory syndrome linked to the

coronavirus

.

Sources from Sergas indicated after transcending this admission that it was not a singular case, since there have been more children of similar ages who have been transferred to the ICU from hospitals in other health areas of the community after being infected.
