After the remake of the handrail called "Koban" in the castle tower of Kochi Castle in Kochi City, visitors were looking forward to the luster of the lacquer that regained its brilliance.

The lacquered railing on the top floor of the castle tower of Kochi Castle is said to have been made by Kazutoyo Yamauchi, the first feudal lord of the Tosa domain, to imitate Kakegawa Castle, which was the residence of the castle.

It has been replaced several times due to fires in the Edo period, but the materials and techniques have not changed.

In order to prevent the "Kanban" from aging, the prefectural government has recently completed the repainting work such as repainting lacquer, and the outer part of the castle tower including the "Kanban" has been opened to the public.

The total construction cost is about 38 million yen, and the repainted and re-installed "Giboshi" is about 1.3 meters high, including the giboshi part on the pillar, and the black color peculiar to lacquer gives off a beautiful luster. ..

The "high column" is outdoors and gradually fades when exposed to ultraviolet rays and wind and rain, so the prefecture will continue to repaint according to the situation.

A 72-year-old man from Nara Prefecture who visited Kochi Castle said, "I was told by the guide that I had repainted it, but it is shiny and beautiful."
