In Lebanon, the Ministry of the Economy announced on the evening of March 23 a further increase in the price of bread.

A 960 gram bag will cost 3,000 pounds compared to 2,500 in February.

What arouse the anger of the Lebanese whose purchasing power has been undermined for months.

The Lebanese pound has lost 90% of its value, inflation is exploding, like the price of meat which has increased by 110% in one year, the minimum wage is only equivalent to 70 dollars.

Consequence, an increase in poverty.

In question, the inability of politicians to form a new government.

To break the deadlock, Emmanuel Macron asked the EU to activate levers against the Lebanese leaders.

Decryption with Eric Verdeil, professor of geography and urban studies at Sciences Po Paris, researcher at the Center for International Relations (CERI).
