  • Since Wednesday morning, the T2 tramway runs directly to the Confluence district and the Hôtel de Région.

  • Previously, travelers were forced to get off at the terminus, Perrache, in order to board the T1 line.

  • "This extension also offers an additional capacity of 50% on this section", welcomes Bruno Bernard, the president of the metropolis and of Sytral.

From now on, there will no longer be any need to make the change at Perrache station.

Since this Wednesday morning, the T2 tramway in Lyon runs directly to the Confluence district and the Hôtel de Région.

Previously, travelers were forced to get off at the terminus, Perrache, in order to board the T1 line, already serving the district, to continue the journey and complete their journey.

T2 is the second line of the tram network in terms of attendance with more than 100,000 trips per day according to figures for 2019 and before the health crisis.

"With a frequency of up to 2 minutes in rush hour between Perrache and Confluence, this extension also offers an additional capacity of 50% on this section", supports Bruno Bernard, the president of Sytral, who wants to improve the service to the district by public transport.

Pedestrianization of part of the Confluence

Coincidence or not, the maiden voyage of the extension of this line took place this Wednesday morning, the day after the launch of the experimentation of the pedestrianization of part of the Cours Charlemagne.

The town hall, led by the ecologist Grégory Doucet, plans to divert car traffic (in both directions) between rue Paul-Montrochet and quai Antoine-Riboud in order to make space for walkers and cyclists.

The test will last until the summer and the results will be presented to residents in September.

A citizen consultation to collect development proposals for the sector is being carried out in parallel.

The municipality also plans to plant around forty trees around the nautical dock and on the François-Mitterrand esplanade.
