Youssoupha publishes "Neptune Terminus", his 6th studio album.

Come to present it Tuesday at the microphone of Philippe Vandel, the rapper returns to the title "Solaar weeps" from his album.

He explains that the record companies, in his early days, long expected him to become a national musical phenomenon, like MC Solaar.

INTERVIEW

Before becoming a French rap star, Youssoupha had a difficult start, with first albums that sold little and a lot of pressure from his record company.

An episode that he recounts in the song

Solaar cries

, present on his latest album

Neptune Terminus

and that he explains, not without spice, Tuesday at the microphone of Philippe Vandel in the program

Culture Médias

.

“At the time, I was expected to become the new MC Solaar,” he recalls.

But his career is struggling to take off, and we make him feel that it will start to be a problem.

"The industry said that Youssoupha was wrong, that I was not going to last," explains the singer.

Nod to Dinos, tackle to Buretel

"When de Buretel said that I am not going to break through because I am Solaar less strong: Dinos", sings Youssoupha in

Solaar cries

, in reference to this lack of confidence in the music world.

This punchline is both a tackle to the "very, very big record company boss" Emmanuel de Buretel, as Youssoupha describes it.

But also a nod to rapper Dinos, who for his part sings in

Booska Stamina

: "When Chulvanij said that I would not break through because I am less strong Youssoupha".

Despite the years of success that followed, Youssoupha kept in mind Emmanuel de Buretel's attitude towards him.

"He said, at the time, already that I was already too old, and that there would not be the famous MC Solaar planned", comments Youssoupha on Europe 1. "I agree with him: I did not become Mc Solaar. But I say become Youssoupha, it is already not bad. "

Youssoupha does not know if the record company owner has listened to his song.

"I don't think he even remembers it anymore", adds the rapper, before addressing a last tackle to Emmanuel de Buretel.

"He must have said a lot of crap in his life, so he's not that close anymore."
