While Professor Arnaud Fontanet calls in the "JDD" to extend the restrictions put in place in 16 departments to other regions of France, his colleague from the Scientific Council Olivier Guérin also insists on the importance of anticipation.

"We need to have strong signals when the epidemic dynamics are on the rise," he said on Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

Will the new restrictions put in place since Saturday in 16 departments be extended to the entire territory?

In the columns of the

Journal du dimanche

, Professor Arnaud Fontanet, member of the Scientific Council, sounded the alarm on the impact of the English variant of Covid-19 and called for the rapid submission of the other regions for the moment spared by the outbreak to these measures.

Invited from Europe 1, his colleague from the Scientific Council Olivier Guérin, head of the geriatrics pole of the University Hospital of Nice, also insists on the necessary anticipation.

"That's the key word," he says.

"We have a few weeks to hold, we have to hold them together. It is an issue of individual behavior," explains Olivier Guérin, reviewing the measures now imposed on 21 million French people.

"Breathing in when the indicators are down"

For this specialist, "we must have this capacity to act in anticipation to relax or make stricter the rules according to the epidemic dynamics".

And to add: "We must have strong signals when the epidemic dynamics are on the rise. The key word is anticipation".

According to Olivier Guérin, the measures must therefore be adapted according to the state of the main indicators such as the incidence, the positivity rate, as well as the saturation of resuscitations.

"For there to be consistency, it is important to have these expectations when these indicators are up, but also the ability to blow when the indicators are down."

"The trends are not very good everywhere"

But are there particularly threatened territories in which restrictions should already be tightened?

"Currently, we are looking closely at all the regions of France", replies Olivier Guérin, and "overall, the trends are not very good everywhere".

“We will have to be able to anticipate,” he insists.
