[Explanation] Baotu Spring in the 1930s, Daming Lake in the 1950s and 1960s... the exquisite black-and-white coke ink paintings vividly show the charm of the ancient city of Jinan.

For more than 20 years, the charcoal painter Zhang Tongxiu walked the streets and lanes to look for the shadow of the old Jinan city, did his best to find old photos of the memory of the old Jinan, and based on this created 100 "old Jinan" charcoal ink paintings to reproduce the ancient city of Jinan The humanistic outlook.

[Explanation] On March 19, the reporter met Zhang Tongxiu, who was creating landscape and ink paintings in a studio called "Painting and Calligraphy".

Different from the freehand brushwork of traditional ink and wash painting, scorched ink painting is a realistic painting method that uses dry pen and thick ink without dilution and integration with water.

Before drawing with ink, Zhang Tongxiu would repeatedly wipe the nib of the brush on rice paper to ensure that there was no excessive ink accumulation in the nib.

Zhang Tongxiu told reporters that he has been studying burnt ink painting for 30 years.

I started to practice calligraphy and painting seriously since 1959.

Around 1990, I met Mr. Zhang Ding (famous Chinese painter), and began to learn Jiao Mo (painting) from Mr. Zhang Ding.

Realism in burnt ink painting is not freehand.

Let's talk about black and white (hue), no oil paint, especially painting this kind of old buildings has a sense of vicissitudes, which happens to be the original feeling of old buildings and old streets in the people's mind.

[Explanation] As a native of Jinan, Zhang Tongxiu had the idea of reproducing the appearance of Jinan's old city by drawing burnt ink paintings in 2000.

For more than 20 years, he walked the streets and alleys to search for pictures and historical data about the original appearance of Jinan.

Sometimes, in order to truly reproduce the local customs of old Jinan, he would personally observe and experience the scene based on the collected old photos.

Under Zhang Tongxiu's unremitting efforts, he successively created 100 "Old Jinan" burnt ink paintings, reflecting the historical changes of Jinan City from the Republic of China period to the founding of New China.

Among them, a 6-foot-long "Battle of Jinan Siege" burnt ink painting has become a priceless treasure in Zhang Tongxiu's heart.

This is the most necessary painting.

Because in September 1948, the People's Liberation Army broke through Jinan from here.

Many soldiers were sacrificed from here.

This place used to be the southeast corner of the old Jinan City, with a turret above it.

The people below are all real photos taken. It should be this photo taken by a war reporter. I found it, and I drew it intact.

[Explanation] Currently, 100 "Old Jinan" burnt ink paintings created by Zhang Tongxiu have been collected in an album called "Old Jinan".

The reporter noticed that under each burnt ink painting, in addition to the size of the original painting, there is also a brief history of the relevant place shown on the screen.

Zhang Tongxiu told reporters that he hopes to attract more people to understand Jinan and pay attention to the development and changes of Jinan through these 100 "old Jinan" burnt ink paintings.

I recorded these, the more complete the record, the more truthful the record, the more proof that our Jinan City is developing now.

The more these true reappearances are to us Jinan people, the more these new Jinan people feel how fast we are developing now.

Why is this book published as a cultural exchange between provinces and cities, and even with foreign countries, so that they can see what Jinan was like before and how modern it is now.

[Commentary] Zhang Tongxiu is now 75 years old.

For him, for more than 20 years, he has insisted on painting burnt ink paintings that contain the memory of the city. It is to awaken people's love for the city and call on people to protect the city's historical features and make the city more attractive.
