Suspected of conspiring to subvert state power, Hong Kong’s Eastern District Councillor Xu Zijian was refused bail

[Global Network Reporter Yin Yanhui] According to a Hong Kong Sing Tao network report on March 19, 47 opposition figures were suspected of participating in the so-called "35+ primaries" last year and charged with conspiracy to subvert state power. One of the defendants, Eastern District Assemblyman Xu Zijian applied for bail in the High Court this morning. The judge rejected Xu Zijian's bail application and must continue to be remanded until May 31 for retrial. The written reasons will be announced at a later date.

According to the report, Xu Zijian has been absent from the doctor during the interrogation period since he was charged in this case.

The prosecution is represented by Luo Tianwei, a senior prosecutor of the Department of Justice.

Judge Du Libing refused Xu Zijian's application for bail after hearing the statements of both parties.

According to Hong Kong’s “East Net” report, the five defendants Wu Zhengheng, Liang Huangwei, He Guilan, Lin Zhuoting and Wang Baiyu who were also charged with conspiracy to subvert state power for participating in the “35+ primaries” were previously designated by the National Security Law as Judge Su Huide. The application for bail was rejected, and five people applied for bail again today. The case was brought to the West Kowloon Magistracy at 9:30 in the morning.

However, five people in court today suddenly stated that they would give up their application for bail review. Among them, Wu Zhengheng and Lin Zhuoting said they reserved the right to review bail every 8 days. They will go to the West Kowloon Court for trial on the 25th of this month. The rest of the defendants said Give up this right.
