Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into allegations of rape against US actor Armand "Armie" Hammer.

The police did not provide any details about their investigation.

Shortly before, a 24-year-old had accused the actor known from the Hollywood film "Call Me By Your Name" of brutally raping her for more than four hours in 2017.

Hammer denied the allegations.

The 24-year-old ex-partner Hammers raised the allegations during a joint press conference with her lawyer Gloria Allred.

She also accused Hammer of "repeatedly" banging her head against a wall.

He had beaten her feet with a whip until she could no longer walk.

According to the information, Hammer and the woman met in 2016 via the online service Facebook.

During their four-year relationship, which was characterized by regular separations, Hammer had abused her "mentally, emotionally and sexually," the woman emphasized.

Lawyer speaks of a "completely amicable" relationship

It was initially unclear whether the police investigation related to the allegations made by the 24-year-old against Hammer or to statements made by other women.

The Hollywood actor denied the allegations about his lawyer.

Andrew Brettler stated that his client has always had "completely consensual" sexual relations.

The alleged victim of abuse sent the actor a text message with explicit sexual requests in July last year.

This made her statements doubtful, he argued.

Brettler has already denied other women’s allegations of abuse against Hammer in the past.

The 34-year-old actor recently had to withdraw from a number of film projects due to allegations of abuse, including the production "Shotgun Wedding" with Jennifer Lopez.

Agency ended the contractual relationship

Previously, chats had made headlines on social media.

In them, Hammer is said to have expressed rape and even cannibalism fantasies towards several women.

He himself dismissed the allegations at the time as "nonsense".

In February, his agency parted ways with Hammer because of these allegations.

Hammer was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2017 for his role in "Call Me By Your Name".
