A very colorful and supercharged road trip!

While waiting for the release of the last part of

La Casa de Papel

, Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato deliver this Friday for Netflix their new creation,

Sky Rojo

, a series that has all the necessary ingredients to become a smash hit. eye, although it is not free from defects.

After the luxury villas and euphoric Ibiza raves of

White Lines

, Álex Pina takes the viewer to the desert landscapes of the island of Tenerife, where Coral (Verónica Sánchez), Gina (Yany Prado) and Wendy (Lali Espósito) are held prisoner in an opulent brothel run by their abject and aptly named pimp Romeo (Asier Etxeandía).

Following an altercation that goes wrong with their pimp, the three prostitutes flee.

Moisés (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) and Christian (Enric Auquer), the club owner's gun carriers, are chasing them.

Sex and violence galore

Over the course of the episodes and the chase, flashbacks gradually reveal the heartbreaking stories that have led each of his women to their desperate fate.

Sky Rojo

hopes to denounce the mafia practices of brothels, a business that brings billions of euros to Spain.

These sex workers are far from all consenting and their profession arouses great disgust.

Coral, the mysterious and drug addict protagonist, arrived at the club after a tidy life as a housewife and studying biology.

The optimist Gina is a victim of Cuban trafficking, Wendy leaves the Argentinian slums in the hope of a better life.

Far from being a drama,

Sky Rojo

leans towards the Tarantinesque… Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato replay the scene of the bite in full overdose of

Pulp fiction

.

The stylized scenes of violence are fueled with irony and adrenaline.

The nudity and sex scenes don't precisely convey the visceral glimpse of the horror these women go through, but rather hold Russ Meyer-style sexploitation flicks like

Faster, Pussycat!

Kill!

Kill!

If we end up getting attached to this trio in

Thelma and Louise

mode

thanks to their interpreters, the male characters come close to caricature.

The dramatic springs of this chase do not hold water altogether.

(Like, who forgets to turn off the location of their smartphone when they flee?)

If Netflix has not skimped on the means of production and the scenography can be impactful, the twists pile up on top of each other at a frantic, even anarchic pace, without any real emotional resonance.

Sky Rojo

also too often uses voiceover narration to make sense of the story.

There is no doubt, however, that

Sky Rojo's

explosive cocktail

will intoxicate some.
