Support measures for economic sectors affected by confinement, announced this Thursday evening, in 16 departments will cost an additional 1.2 billion euros per month, Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire announced Thursday.

“The impact of the new health restrictions on the French economy is 0.2 percentage point of annual GDP.

The support measures will cost 1.2 billion euros more per month, or 7.2 billion euros in total per month, ”he said in a statement to journalists.

400 million euros for partial unemployment

Out of 1.2 billion, 600 million are intended to compensate for part of the loss of activity suffered by small businesses and the self-employed, 400 million will be used to cover short-time working, and 200 million to exemptions from charges, according to Bercy.

Prime Minister Jean Castex announced Thursday a new four-week confinement from Friday for sixteen departments (the Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France regions as well as the Alpes-Maritimes, Seine-Maritime and Eure ).

110,000 shops will close, according to Bruno Le Maire

Non-essential shops and departments must remain closed from Saturday.

Unlike the second confinement in autumn 2020, bookstores and record stores will be able to remain open, being now classified as “of first necessity”.

The Ministry of the Economy estimates at 110,000, including nearly 60,000 for the Ile-de-France alone, the number of shops which will have to close, including those which had already had to close their doors because they were located in shopping centers.
