While new health measures must be taken Thursday in several regions to fight the Covid epidemic, in hospitals in Ile-de-France, resuscitation services are already under pressure.

For Jean-Michel Constantin, head of the anesthesia-resuscitation service at Pitié-Salpêtrière, it is urgent to act.

It is only a matter of hours before new health measures are announced, especially in Ile-de-France.

"We will make the decisions that we must take" in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday to caregivers at the Poissy-Saint-Germain-en Laye hospital center, in the Yvelines.

Because the Ile-de-France doctors are categorical: the intensive care units are saturated and are reaching a breaking point in the region.

Jean-Michel Constantin, head of the anesthesia-resuscitation service at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, was present during this meeting with the Head of State and pleads for a re-containment seven days a week.

"Very little room for maneuver"

"Given the state of hospital structures, we would prefer it to be total confinement to brake harder. At Pitié-Salpêtrière, we currently have a place available on four resuscitations, so that leaves very little room for maneuver," he explained to the microphone of Europe 1.

For him, if strong measures are not taken to curb the epidemic, the short-term risk is to endanger the sick.

"To increase the number of patients that we will be able to take, we will have to reduce the quality of service but also safety. Then, we will have to select patients who require resuscitation. that is to say choose, because we will not be able to take everyone. We have not done it since the start of the epidemic and we do not want to come to this, "pleaded Jean-Michel Constantin.

The health measures decided by Emmanuel Macron will be announced Thursday during a press point held by the Prime Minister.

But whatever the decisions, for the department head, they must be taken quickly.

"Late does not mean too late. And the distinction between late and too late is being played out in the hours and days to come."
