Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) has been open to a corona test obligation for Mallorca returnees.

He thinks this "idea is anything but wrong," said Maas on Wednesday in Berlin.

"The fact that returning tourists are tested is in everyone's interest." The Robert Koch Institute has recently ceased to classify Mallorca, which is popular with German tourists, as well as some other regions as a risk area the height.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) therefore appealed to the federal government to introduce mandatory testing.

Maas called on those who like to travel in Germany to be responsible.

The lifting of a travel warning is not "equivalent to an invitation to go somewhere".

"Everyone is still called upon to do their part to ensure that we do not embark on an exponential development," said the SPD politician.

“Of course, traveling is also one of the facts that multiply contacts.

I hope that the citizens will deal with it very responsibly. "

Maas also defended the lifting of the travel warning as "inevitable".

The definition of risk areas or high risk areas is given by fixed criteria.

The incidence value in Mallorca is well below these criteria.
