CDU boss Armin Laschet has defended the precautionary stop of corona vaccinations with the preparation from AstraZeneca.

Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) had no other option than to follow the recommendations of the Paul Ehrlich Institute, said Laschet on Wednesday evening on the ARD program “Maischberger”.

The institute responsible for vaccine safety had advised to suspend vaccinations with the AstraZeneca substance due to possible health risks.

“Politics can't help but follow science,” said Laschet.

The NRW Prime Minister stood in front of the criticized Minister of Health.

Spahn has "the hardest job ever".

The use of the AstraZeneca vaccine was suspended in Germany and other countries after isolated cases of thrombosis following vaccinations.

Until an EMA decision is made, Germany will only vaccinate the preparations from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) wants to decide this Thursday whether the AstraZeneca vaccine should continue to be used.

All EU member states should then react similarly, demanded Laschet.

There must be “a single European language” for vaccinations.

So far, the handling of the problems with the vaccine in the EU "went wrong in every respect".
