Jean Castex and the Minister of Health Olivier Véran will hold a press conference on Thursday at 6 p.m., Matignon announced to AFP on Wednesday, after a Defense Council which was to decide on a possible reconfinement in Ile-de-France.

The head of government on Tuesday described the situation as "worrying and critical" and stressed that the "data" were "gathered" for a re-containment of Ile-de-France where the resuscitation services are in great demand.

Other regions could be affected by new restrictions, such as Hauts-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, according to a government source.
