A 30-year-old man is brain dead this Wednesday in Rennes.

Hospitalized at the CHU Pontchaillou, this man of Chechen origin was the victim of gunshots this Wednesday around 1:45 p.m. in the district of Cleunay, west of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine).

Several shots rang out in front of the small Carrefour City shopping center, injuring two men, aged 30 and 31, said public prosecutor Philippe Astruc.

The youngest's vital prognosis is engaged.

Police arrested a 21-year-old man shortly after the incident.

He was taken into custody in the premises of the judicial police.

"The latter is known to the courts in particular for infringements of the legislation on narcotic products", specifies the prosecution.

The trail of a settling of scores

The criminal investigation was entrusted to the interregional management of the PJ.

It will have to determine the context of these shots.

"The first elements collected are suggestive of possible settling of scores against a background of drug trafficking", adds the prosecutor.

Tuesday evening, a first investigation had already been opened after gunfire in the same neighborhood.

A 30-year-old person presented to the South Hospital in the evening with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Relatively untouched by the settling of scores, the Breton capital had seen the number of armed conflicts soar last year.

Ten facts had been noted between January and June 2020. Eight of the ten cases had been clarified and several drug seizures had been carried out by the police.

Twenty-three people had been indicted and 15 of them had been imprisoned.
