A woman and two children died Tuesday after their car plunged into the Saône, in Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône), we learned from the firefighters.

The emergency services intervened shortly after 5 p.m. following the fall of a vehicle at the level of the Pont de Frans which crosses the Saône, said a firefighter from the Rhone operational rescue and fire center (Codis).

Three-year-old girl and twelve-year-old boy found by divers

They first recovered the bodies of a woman and a three-year-old girl that they failed to revive, he said.

The body of a twelve-year-old boy was then found by the divers around 6.30 p.m., under the submerged vehicle.

About twenty firefighters from the Rhône intervened, helped by firefighters from neighboring Ain.

According to the daily Le Progrès, an investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the accident and no lead is favored.
