French production well showcased

Building on this dynamic, French artists are becoming the priority of labels, especially rappers, underlines Bertrand Burgalat, director of Snep (National Union of Phonographic Publishing).

"There was not the Americanization that one could have imagined on it. The French language has maintained itself very well, in particular thanks to rap and so-called urban music", he explains to Europe. 1. "It is also due to the fact that the big boxes, but also the more artisanal producers, continue to invest enormously in the French production. What is remarkable is that the public spontaneously goes towards these productions."

These good figures are also the result of a policy of promoting French production that began at the end of the 1980s, when private radio stations were forced to broadcast 40% of French-speaking artists during prime time.

Since 2016, a quarter of the titles they broadcast must be new French-speaking talents.

Companies in the music sector even have a tax credit to support French productions, which now represent 70% of the artists we listen to on streaming platforms.
