End of the enchanted parenthesis?

In Brittany, a region long spared by the coronavirus, several territories are facing a worrying resurgence of the epidemic which worries the authorities.

In Finistère and Côtes d'Armor, the two prefects have just announced new restrictions in an attempt to slow the progression of Covid-19.

The recent appearance of a “Breton variant” in Lannion which seems difficult to detect by PCR tests raises fears of a further increase in the number of contaminations.

The news could make the most affected French territories smile, forced into forced confinements on weekends.

But in the Côtes d'Armor, wearing a mask is now compulsory everywhere and for all citizens aged 11 and over.

The prefect of Finistère also issued the same decree but only for the 26 municipalities making up the community of municipalities of Morlaix Community, where the incidence rate is increasing, even if it remains confined to a "modest" 66 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

No alcohol on public roads

The authorities have also decided to ban alcohol consumption on public roads in order to limit gatherings.

Finally, the last measure aims to ban garage sales, flea markets, clearance sales and unpacking.

Mayors are also invited to enforce the 4m² surface area imposed on markets and the ban on gatherings.

In the Côtes d'Armor, the incidence rate is on the rise and now stands at more than 130 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, i.e. the regional average.

The number of hospitalizations is also on the rise in Brittany with 44 more patients in three days, eleven of whom were received in intensive care.

The authorities are closely monitoring the evolution of the cluster at the Lannion hospital center, where a “Breton variant” has been identified.

The incidence rate is also skyrocketing in the Rennes metropolitan area, where it reached 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, or 100 points more than last week.

The mayor and president of the metropolis Nathalie Appéré sent a message to the population, inviting everyone to strictly respect barrier gestures.
