A brilliant student of Science Po Paris, now a journalist, and from a modest family in the south of France, Nesrine Slaoui questions in "Illégitimes" published by Fayard editions the legitimacy of her success.

Nesrine Slaoui

sees herself as an anomaly.

Worse: "a bug in the matrix" she writes in this lucid story which questions the young woman she has nevertheless become.

Daughter of a Moroccan immigrant couple, she grew up in low-cost housing in a small town in the south of France.

She passed all obstacles towards her dream.

A 20/20 in the oral examination of the French baccalaureate, Sciences Po Grenoble, and the Grail, the journalism school of Sciences Po Paris.

If the famous Republican social elevator worked for someone, it is for her.

Yet she does not show off.

On the contrary, she has "melancholy success" as she says.

She saw its success as a deviance, as an eternal back and forth between two worlds, between two social classes, between two cultures, between two languages, between two realities.

One foot in one, one foot in the other, it's not easy to keep your balance, and to remain fully yourself when your life is taking shape in a permanent split.

Nesrine Slaoui publishes her first novel whose title resonates like a slap.

“Illegitimes”, was published by Fayard editions.
